The Alps

🤩🤩🤩🤩

The Alps is a cosy neighbourhood wine bar in Prahran, Melbourne. With a long communal table in the front and a courtyard in the back, the Alps packs personality and casual chic into an alpine-themed space. Whether summer or winter - which in Melbourne can occur on the same day - the Alps has a lively atmosphere with well-informed staff…

The wine selection is HUGE with over 400 bottles to take away or enjoy in-house and around 20 different wines by the glass. For those of you who are not wine drinkers, the Alps offers classic cocktails and a selection of beers.  They also serve delicious wine-centric dishes to accompany your chosen drink, including freshly shucked oysters, anchovies on toast, and a selection of cheeses and charcuterie. I started my evening with 2 freshly shucked Sydney oysters and a glass of King Valley Prosecco; followed up by the King prawn sando and a Shadowfax Chardonnay; and finished with a glass of the rich and smooth Syrahmi ‘Demi’ Shiraz. YUM!

The team at the Alps carefully selects their wines and look toward terroir-driven styles that reflect the place and climates in which they are grown. As you might expect with a name like the Alps, there’s a particular focus on wines from the foothills of the European Alps such as Jura, Alto Adige, Burgundy, and Piedmont. I have heard through the grapevine that they host an informal wine club once a month where they pour premium, rare and vintage wines via Coravin.  Now I just need to work out how to get an invitation!

Whether it’s date night, an after-work drink, or a get-together with friends, the Alps is a fantastic spot to share a few glasses and a few plates.
